“I’m not a politically active actor. I’m a politically active American. I participate in my democracy because that’s what democracy is. ‘We the People’ means we all have to show up and participate.” .
That’s a quote made by actress Kerry Washington from one of her tv appearances. Kerry is a staunch supporter of causes/charities that she’s passionate about. The list of causes/charities ranges from Affirmative Action, Domestic Violence, Women Rights, to Habitat For Humanity, GLAAD, and a plethora of other organizations which she holds dear.

Born in Bronx, New York, Washington grew up in a socially active household. Discussing politics was big part of her upbringing. This encouraged Kerry to be very active and involved throughout high and college. The Golden Globe- and Emmy-nominated actress passion took her to the front lines of President Obama’s first and second presidential campaign and she even spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2012. In 2009, President Obama appointed her to the President's Committee of the Arts and Humanities.

Inspired by women before her who spoke out on social issues and fought for the right to vote. Kerry plays homage to these women by participating and continuing their work. She counts Eve Ensler Jane Fonda, Diahann Carroll, and Rita Moreno as some of her heroes.

The former ‘Scandal’ star wants you to speak out too.
"Do it! What are you waiting on? Do it! Stand up for what you believe in. The world needs your voice. Whoever you are, you have something to say. Say it.”
